Influenza Surveillance

Influenza surveillance is a collaborative effort between the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the Wisconsin Division of Public Health (DPH), and many partners in local public health and clinical laboratories, hospitals, clinics, and emergency departments. Information is collected in five categories to:  Influenza Surveillance in Wisconsin

  • Determine when and where influenza activity is occurring
  • Track the spread of influenza-related illness
  • Determine what influenza viruses are circulating
  • Detect changes in influenza viruses
  • Measure the impact influenza is having on hospitalizations and deaths in the United States
